This January transfer window is typically a period of intense rumour and potential major deals. A number of high-profile footballers are being connected to transfers out of their current clubs. We examine some of the top figures who could be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the forward available, reports suggest a significant move is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal with a £65 million release clause active for a short window at the start of the month. Latest developments indicate the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his signature. Former interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to other targets, leaving clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

This England centre-back has impress for Crystal Palace despite a previous transfer to Anfield falling through. With his deal due to expire in the close season, January is the club's final chance to secure a transfer fee for their captain. Numerous top sides, including City and multiple European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. However, a winter departure remains unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Welsh forward has had first-team minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this term. Despite finishing as the side's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started just a small number of league games. It is understood the London outfit is open to a transfer for the correct valuation, believed to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an inquiry.

The Portuguese playmaker might be poised for a return to the English top flight after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still just 28, and with his agreement expiring in the summer, he represents a potential bargain. Teams like Manchester United and Liverpool have been connected to the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he would be prepared to take a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran German shot-stopper finds himself as third-choice at Barcelona following new manager Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a winter departure looks highly probable. Villa were initially mentioned as a possible destination, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing interest in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This proven English centre-forward has continued scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his fading chances of making the England World Cup. But, securing a deal presents major hurdles. Al-Ahli do not wish to sell him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages render any agreement difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all mentioned as admirers.

This highly-rated Turkish attacker has been in excellent form for Juventus this season. As his existing deal nearing its end, a host of Premier League sides – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are desperate to secure the youngster to a new long-term contract but face a race to keep one of the continent's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

This highly-touted Dutch midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. This teenager is widely tipped to make a big-money move in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at around £22 million.
