Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a selection of carols, music and readings from actors such as award-winning actors.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The focus of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
